Obituary For Susan T. Popp
Susan T. Popp, 76, of Butler, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Mast) Tartas and the beloved wife of the late Ronald “Ronnie” Popp, Susan was a lifelong resident of New Jersey and recently moved to Barrington, RI to be closer to her family.
Susan graduated from Long Island University and later went on to earn her Master’s Degree. She joined the Peace Corps and taught English to students in Fez, Morocco, which she was very proud of. After returning, she worked a few different jobs before finally landing a job working for the Dept. of Labor and Training in New Jersey until her retirement. Susan loved gardening and became a New Jersey Master Gardener in her retirement. She loved to knit and collect Amelia Earhart memorabilia.
Susan met her husband, Ronnie, at the home of a mutual friend. The way she told the story of their first date was that he “dragged” her through the woods and mud at night in the dark looking for a secret fishing spot and they slept on the ground overnight, with her nearly getting frostbite. She woke up to the most beautiful view of the sun rising over a pond she hadn’t even seen the night before and they proceeded to fish there. The rest, as they say, is history.
Susan is survived by her son, Jason Popp and his wife Tracy of Barrington, RI; her step daughters, Juliann Vigiletti and her husband Nick of NJ and Lucille Allard and her husband Tony; her brother, James Tartas and his wife Betty of Anacortes, WA; and her six grandchildren, Logan Popp, Riley Popp, Christopher Vigiletti, Sophia Vigiletti, James Pantano and Michael Pantano. She was the grandmother of the late Anthony Pantano.
Susan asked that the following poem be shared for her Obituary:
Epitaph for a Darling Lady
- Dorothy Parker
All her hours were yellow sands,
Blown in foolish whorls and tassels;
Slipping warmly through her hands;
Patted into little castles.
Shiny day on shiny day
Tumble in a rainbow clutter,
As she flipped them all away,
Sent them spinning down the gutter.
Leave for her a red young rose,
Go your way, and save your pity;
She is happy, for she knows
That her dust is very pretty.
Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885.

I didn't know Susan long. I'd say I knew her for about 4 months. But in those 4 months I learned everything there was to know about Susan. She was kind hearted, always making me laugh and that she loved frostys from Wendy's. I saw Susan every day for the last 4 months. Susan helped me get through my own struggles. I will never forget Susan. I miss her every day.

The loss of Susan, is felt by so many. She was an amazing, brilliant, quick witted person. She had a great laugh and a spirit that will live on. My condolences to her family. She was a proud mother, stepmother, mother in law to Tracy, and grandmother . May her memory always bring a smile and a good laugh. Rest in peace.

Susan and I met at Butler book club. We shared stories and reactions to the books we read. She moved into Cambridge Heights and we became neighbors and she share her love of her grandchildren. I feel like I know you and your wife and babies through Susan. My deepest sympathy . She will be missed.
