Obituary For Steven C. Lopes
Steven C. Lopes passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Born on July 4, 1949, he was a son of the late Joseph and Muriel (Cavanaugh) Lopes and the companion of Denise Kinney. A lifelong Warren resident, he was a graduate of the former Warren High School and the RI School of Electronics. Steven was employed in the telecommunications industry for his entire career, working for several companies. Most notably was Econotel Business Systems and St. Anne’s Hospital.
His relationship with anything telephone, electrical or mechanical wasn’t limited to his professional life. He loved working on anything with wires and, equally, all things automotive. Steven especially treasured his 1979 Jeep CJ5, which he bought new in 1979 and kept until it became difficult for him to drive. He was always happy on the open road but even more so on open waters, navigating his boat around familiar locales on Narragansett Bay. His favorite times were summer mornings, heading out for the day, and evenings, maneuvering his vessel back to the dock with the sunset over his shoulder.
Steven loved Rock ‘n Roll, especially Bob Seger. He was a strong swimmer, a fan of action movies and NASCAR. He took great pleasure in days at the beach, jaunts to Cape Cod and the occasional trip to Florida. He loved dancing and dining out and was partial to pasta (“ronis”), which he would eat every meal if he could.
Steven loved spending time with his brothers and sister, most often at the family homestead. They especially enjoyed being outdoors in the barn when the weather was warm. A highlight for Steven was the family clambake that was held for many years on the property and was attended by close and extended family, friends, acquaintances, and anyone who stopped by to join in.
He had an easy smile, blue eyes that lit up frequently with joy, more often with mischief. He was a kind and humble man, a good brother and friend.
In addition to his companion, Denise, Steven is survived by his four sisters, Elizabeth Lopes, Marissa Lopes, Valerie Tavares and her husband Jim, and Myrna MacDougall and her husband Peter; three brothers, Paul Lopes, Peter Lopes and Adam Lopes; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph J. Lopes and Michael Lopes. He will also be deeply missed by Denise’s son, Matthew Kinney and Georgie Girl, his Wheaton Terrier, beloved pet and loyal protector.
Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. A Private Burial will be held at a later date.
Donation in his memory can be made to the Warren Association of Vietnam Veterans, P.O. Box 293, Warren, RI 02885.
A special thank you for the loving care from the staff at Crestwood Nursing and Rehabilitation.

My condolences to Steve's family. He used to come to the Strength & Balance class on Fridays at the Warren Senior Center. He always had a smirky smile on his face. His sister Valerie was the instructor ( still is) and Marrissa was his "Sargeant " in class. Always strict, in the most loving way. ❤️ I had told the 3 of them many times, I admired the relationship they had. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. RIP Steve. 🙏
