He is survived by his beloved wife, Paula R. Murphy. Richard prized the time he served his country with honor as a Lance Corporal in the 2nd Battalion of the United States Marine Corps while stationed in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. It was his great privilege to be called a Marine. And, before his retirement as a nurse's aide, Richard took considerable pride in the care, compassion, and dignity he was privileged to afford those in his charge at Blenheim-Newport and John Clarke Nursing Home, Middletown, R.I. He also took immense pride in his Irish heritage and wholeheartedly enjoyed the time he spent visiting Ireland. A lover of music, Richard enjoyed playing his banjo and listening to James Taylor. He loved spending time by the ocean, watching documentaries, and listening to Sherlock Holmes. Richard's arrangements are in the care of Family's Choice Cremation, Inc. of 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, R.I. Per his request, Richard's wake and funeral service are respectfully omitted. A private family service will be held at the Cremation Garden, North Burial Ground, Bristol, R.I. at a future date. A celebration of Richard's life will follow at a date to be announced.
