Obituary For Martha C. Haldeman

Martha Haldeman, 95, of Bristol, RI passed away on February 16, 2024. Martha was born on December 30, 1928 to Julia Wardigo and Leo Royer of Lancaster PA. Her entire childhood was spent during the Great Depression which shaped her perspective and made her a frugal money manager and resourceful housewife.

Martha married Marlin on January 5, 1946 in St. Petersburg, PA and had three children, Donna, Douglas and Pamela. Martha loved taking care of her family and spent much of her time in creative pursuits such as sewing, painting beautiful designs on furniture, crocheting and creating delicious meals out of whatever was available. She also worked alongside her husband in their sewing machine sales and repair business and eventually added a fabric store. She was also a voracious reader of nonfiction, gathering information about the world we live in.

Martha was predeceased by her husband Marlin after 56 years of marriage and her eldest daughter, Donna Martens.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Haldeman, daughter, Pamela Halligan, four grandchildren, Brooke Wyman, Brett Jolley, Brandon Jolley and Shea Martens, as well as 8 great grandchildren, Katelyn, Kelsey, Elliana, Chase, Calvin, Ava, Milo and Vivian.

Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoohouse Rd. Warren, RI. The family will be holding a small ceremony on April 12th at 1:00 by the gravesite at Chiques Church in Manheim, PA.

Mom had a Martha Stewart like gift for cooking and baking. Each meal was prepared to perfection with fresh and tasty ingredients. Her desserts were the crowning glory of each meal, especially her pies. She spared no time in making a meal often cooking for hours. She saw the world through unique eyes and that was obvious in her creativity. We are blessed to have one of her painted pieces of furniture (which was made by Marlin) in our home. Her life was filled with many challenges but she made it through them with the love and support of her family. She now has a peace that sometimes eluded her in life for which we are grateful.
