It is with immense sadness that the family of Lynn Smith-Bartram announces her passing as a result of lung cancer on June 13, 2018, at the age of 62. Lynn, the daughter of Jeanne (Lynch) Smith and Francis Smith, is best remembered for her sense of humor and optimism. Her tendency to downplay her own struggles and uplift others with her infectious laughter and cheery outlook will be remembered by all who knew her as 'classic Lynn'. A Newport native, she obtained her degree in Business Administration at Roger Williams College in 1980. It is perhaps fitting that Lynn was averse to society's tendency to characterize human beings by their careers, as her spirit was far too expansive to be summarized by a list of job titles. Nevertheless, she will be fondly remembered by all the lives she touched in her various occupations, from her early days at the Newport Creamery to her later years working as a librarian at the West Chester Public Library and archivist at the Miami University. She had the rare ability to navigate both technical and social realms: not only did she interface well with the public; she wrote COBOL and worked as a programmer analyst for IOCS, Vanguard, Waverly Press, USF&G and Johns Hopkins University. She was a loving mother who will be remembered for her tireless support of her daughters. Headstrong and free-spirited, she often questioned convention. She was an adventurous soul who loved the outdoors, with a special enthusiasm for snow. Her friends and family cherish all the laughs and fond memories. Though at times she was irreverent, sarcastic, and a prankster, she was also known for her sincerity, wisdom, and love of books. She is survived by her loving husband, Peter Bartram, and two daughters, Chelsea and Chloe Bartram. A celebration of her life is scheduled at a later date. In the Irish tradition, there will be drink, merriment, and storytelling in accordance with her wishes.
