Obituary For John F. Lachapelle
John F. Lachapelle, 82, of Warren, RI, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 11, 2025, at his residence. Born on June 17, 1942, in Warren, he was the son of the late Luzephir and Lucille (Vezina) Lachapelle. He was the brother of the late Roger Lachapelle.
Johnny worked for most of his life: first as a farmhand, then as an electrical engineer at Blount Boats and later for Cruise International. When heart complications forced him to stop working, Johnny found other ways to keep busy, for “idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage, especially with anything that had an engine, and worked on vehicles up until he passed. Johnny was the cheapest mechanic in town and very well may have fixed your vehicle at some point!
Johnny spent much of his free time with his best friend, Billy Alger. Friends for over 60 years, you couldn’t find one without the other. They saw the birth of each other's children, gathered at endless family parties, and spent countless weekends in Vermont with the kids. Throughout Johnny’s life, he enjoyed the winters snowmobiling and went on several trips with his good friend, Bill Perry, traveling throughout different states. He loved pulling his kids around the backyard on his snowmobile. But above all, he was always willing to help, build, fix, or break and refix anything and everything for his friends and family.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Christina (Burke), and his six cherished children, Lisa Lachapelle of Wilmington, DE, John LaChapelle (Beth) of Swansboro, NC, Cynthia Shannon (Jon) of Dighton, MA, Stephanie Ler (Brandon) of Savage, MT, Nicole Pica (Aaron) of Swansea, MA, and Nicholas Lachapelle of Warren; his treasured grandchildren, Lindsay Lamb Dietz, Courtney and Emily Lamb, Jennifer Lachapelle, Gabrielle Rogers, Laura Lachapelle, Evelyn, Arntson, Eloise Ler, Mason Thibault, Theodore and Zachary Lachapelle and Aubrey and Callie Pica, as well as several great grandchildren.
Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.
In lieu of flowers donation in John’s honor may be made to a charity of your choice and raise a can of the frostiest Budweiser you can find to celebrate Johnny’s long and happy life.

Dear Christina and family I'm so sorry to hear about jobs passing. I've known John for years I first met him probably in the early seventies-when he came to our house welded our boiler in middle of winter. We were a family of 12 children and my dad knew him maybe through our cousin Eddy Sampson or maybe the happy hour club or Portuguese club either way he was a hero to us for getting our heat back working. I worked with him at blounts and became friends. John fixed my triumph motorcycle that nobody else could do between him and Ed Sampson those guys could fix anything. Later when I bought my house John came to my house and taught me how to install a complete heating system. Some 20 years later he put a new one in for me and I was his helper I can't tell you how many times I called on him for mechanical stuff and probably all the cars and trucks I've ever owned. I will miss him dearly and so sorry I didn't know about his passing I would've certainly been there. RIP JOHN Thanks for everything Alan Patterson
