Obituary For E. Ross Cochran
E. Ross Cochran, 68, of Bristol, RI passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 4:20PM surrounded by his loving family and close friends. A son of the late Judge Eugene and Elizabeth (Moran) Cochran and the beloved husband of Lisa Cole-Cochran, he was a long-time resident of Bristol.
Ross enjoyed golfing, skiing, daily walks around Colt State Park, and playing his guitars. Sailing was his passion and he was a member of the Committee for 12-metre yacht racing. Ross competed in the Wednesday Night Races at the Bristol Yacht Club, first on his sailboat “Silent Running”, and later on “Hula”. He was a member of the Elk’s #1860 and played in the pool league for many years. For 13 years, Ross spent the winter at his home in Key Largo, FL, where he welcomed all visitors and guests around the clock. He enjoyed long morning walks, kayaking, playing with the Manatees, and playing guitar at the firepit on the roof. Having never met a stranger, Ross made countless friends over the years. He was a fun-loving and generous person who gave himself to people without expecting anything in return. Ross was truly a one of a kind character, in the most positive sense of the word. He will be deeply missed forever and remembered in our hearts.
In addition to his beloved wife, Lisa, Ross is survived by his brother, Tim Cochran and his wife Hilary, many in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 12PM at the DeWolf Tavern, 259 Thames St. Bristol, RI 02809.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ross’ honor can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at: https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2100&mfc_pref=T&2100.donation=form1 or by mail at: P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

Ross was a dear friend for many decades. I met Ross and his friend years ago at little island pub in St. Barts. I needed to catch a boat ride back to St. Maarten, and they needed to sail to the bank there for funds! They said I could come along, as long as I paid for their beers! They then met my schooner crew and we had fun and musical times at anchor in the harbor! Ross sailed his beloved boat "Phagawee" (sp?) to the Virgin Islands a few seasons later with crew and a cat aboard! I was working on a neighboring island at the time and heard through the coconut telegraph that they were in St. John, USVI. I took a ferry over, and much to my surprise, Ross was atop a big hill at a new multiplex construction site with a full tool belt on, working as a supervisor! I returned to Bristol one season from yachting and Ross spotted a cute apt. for rent on Hope St. above an antique store, and said "You'll have a great place for the parade!" 4th of July of course, and there was still snow on the ground! I was introduced to the Bristol 4th of July, and to many of his good friends, who then became my friends. I also met a new acquaintance of Ross' who became my best friend. (One season Ross heard a crew member mention they needed a new yacht chef on their large vessel in Bristol, he relayed the info, and I was hired for a great long-term job!) He visited my friends and I in Florida and decided he wanted to be in Florida for winters, but in the Keys! We had a caravan of friends helping in his "Changes in Latitude" move and we celebrated with him. We had many great and entertaining times at his "Southern Outpost" with music, beverages, Keys cuisine, fires and kayaks! He was one of the funniest people I've ever known, and he had many of us laughing for decades! A true gift! Extremely witty, generous, boisterous, one of a kind, with a unique mind-- he made this world a lot more fun place to be at times! And "Rossisms!" He and his spirit will be greatly missed, and forever remembered! Cheers, Mugs up and Hats on for Ross!! Love, light and remembrance, and heartfelt thoughts for the family and friends.... Sail On!! Xoxo, Susan Oliver Susie "Q" (And a green candle for his love of daily walks in parks!

I was 8 years old when Ross was born and as the older cousin, loved having a baby cousin. As a toddler he was so precocious and adorable, and the old folks doted on him! I didn't see Ross a lot through out the years, but saw him enough to appreciate his uniqueness and authenticity. He was such a good soul, with a hearty laugh...an "out of the box" kind of guy! I remember him with great fondness in my heart. I light a blue candle for him... the color of the ocean he so loved to sail on!

Tim, Lisa and Sheri. Ross was quick witted, incredibly smart and such a clown. I have a bad back. Every time I walked into Aidan's, he would give me a bear hug, lift me off my feet and crack my back. He invited me to go down to Newport with him to set up the markers for the America's Cup races. I never took him up on it and now I am sorry.
