Obituary For Dana A. Baxter

Dana Alan Baxter (75) passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 at Newport Hospital. As the oldest of his immediate Baxter Family, Dana, with his superior intellect and the challenges that came with it, was able to navigate his own path and found a unique set of adventures and the best of friends.

Dana graduated from Warren High School in 1967 and entered the United States Army serving as a Radio Repairman. He was stationed at relay stations in Germany and Greenland during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the states Dana found various ways to earn a living whether it was installing aluminum siding or hand building and programming controls to operate prototype machinery. Dana’s love of music is what grounded him and he was able to play many instruments, but the bass guitar defined him. Dana was active in Warren’s weekly Canteen Days and performed in various bands such as the 'Magical Shoelace, Artful Dodgers and The Bigs (named after the larger quahogs, which are not so young and tender.) He recently played bass at Schooners on Island Park, Portsmouth.

While Dana was able to come and go as he pleased, his true talent was how he connected with the individuals that crossed his path. Conversations and stories abounded, about anything and everything, Dana loved the life he lived.

Dana is survived by two brothers, Dennis Baxter (Cindy) of Warren, RI and Daniel Baxter (Brenda) of North Smithfield, RI, three sisters Elin Principe (Larry) and Elsie Alves (Manny) of Bristol, RI and Emilie DeSisto (Tom) of Barrington, RI and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Donald A. Baxter and Edna Baxter, an infant brother David Baxter and a sister Esther Almeida.

Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. A private burial was held at South Burial Ground, Sowamset Avenue, Warren, RI.
