Obituary For Carolyn Paradise

Carolyn B. Paradise, 71, of Johnston, RI, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in St. Petersburg, FL, she was a daughter of the late Whitman and Ruth (Richardson) Paradise.

Carolyn, or Yaya, as she was known by her grandson, lived an incredible life and moved all over the country, from Virginia to Ohio, Massachusetts, and Maine. She settled in Rhode Island after the birth of the light of her life, her grandson, Benny. Carolyn started her own stenciling business while in Massachusetts before moving to Poland, ME. She worked as a Librarian in Casco, ME for 20 years where she was a beloved member of the community.

She was an accomplished artist, a published author/ illustrator and loved to lose herself in various craft projects. Her goal was to make the biggest mess possible and would often include glitter in her projects to accomplish that goal.

Carolyn was an avid baker and was known for her famous cinnamon rolls. Her greatest joys in life were being outside in the dirt with her flowers and spending time with her beloved grandson, Benny. She will be most remembered as a dedicated Mother, Grandmother, and Sister who collected friends wherever she went.

She will be deeply missed by all those she touched.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Spencer Murch of Manchester, NH; two daughters, Kiira Amundsen and her husband Gordon Smith of Limerick, ME and Leila Zarlenga and her husband Chris of Johnston, RI; her beloved grandson, Benny Zarlenga; as well as many friends, nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI. For tributes, please visit www.familyschoicecremation.com.

The family will host a Celebration of Life for Carolyn this summer in Maine. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Giraffe Conservation Foundation or the Casco Public Library (Maine).

I went to high school with Carolyn. She was not only the prettiest girl in our class, but just a kind, sweet person. She had some rough times, but no matter how poorly she was feeling, she always wanted to know how I was. She was truly a remarkable women! We will all miss her.

The world will be a little less kind and generous without Carolyn. It's hard to express how much her friendship has meant to me these last 40 years. Rest in peace dear friend. Liz Nields

My sympathy to Spencer, Kiira and Leila. I worked with your mom at the Casco Public Library. She was such a hard worker and she loved the community she was serving. She spoke about you (her children) often. Please know that she was truly one of the best!

Carolyn was such an inspiration and a fun and talented woman! I enjoyed getting to know her when she moved to RI from ME and became a doting Yaya and caregiver to grandson Benny. Her creativity and skills with crafts, cooking, gift giving, writing, drawing and illustrating were just remarkable! Carolyn truly has left her mark in our hearts and memories -- and in her beloved grandson and lovely family. She will be missed and remembered with love and compassion. Sending my sympathy to Leila, Chris, Benny and all the family. Rest in peace and love and light, dear Carolyn. ~~ Alannah Farrell

I will never forget the day we met. You were such an inspiration and role model for women. The courage you had for everything you have been through; was never even noticed due to your beautiful love of life. A magical journey was always uncovered during our time together with tea. Seeing your infectious smile when your grandson Benny would enter the room, all your positive energy and happiness surrounded by family/friends.. Remembering, the strong willed -spunk, love of animals/living creatures and how many happy memories you left with me. I will keep your legacy alive from all your hard work and dedication to your book. I will certainly continue to make Giraffe's Count, Carolyn. As I pray and grieve, I will take comfort in knowing that you're in God's hands and in heavenly peace. All my love, Kerri, Rich, Ava and Bella

Carolyn was such an interesting and beautiful person who shared her librarian's love of books with everyone she met! She was a delight to have in our book club when she moved to Rhode Island and her tasty treats and baking were really beyond compare. We missed her so much when she became ill and was no longer able to meet with us. Her family was the most important part of her life especially her grandson Benny who she spoke of constantly-praying for her beautiful family with love and sympathy Alison H.
