Obituary For Alfred L. Sampson

Alfred Leo Sampson “Fred”, 75, lifelong resident of Warren, passed away on February 26, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Fred was a 1967 graduate of Warren High School and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island.

Fred worked as a Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) in Microbiology for the State of Rhode Island at Eleanor Slater Hospital. He also worked at Women and Infants Hospital and Kent County Hospital in Chemistry, always challenging himself and others around him intellectually.

He was very active in his children and grandchildren’s lives, from starting his own indoor basketball league, coaching little league baseball and softball, to being a huge advocate of education. His passion for music led him to be a lifelong member of many drum and bugle corps. He played the bugle for The Royal Lancers, Generations, St. Kevins Emerald Knights, and the Matadors. He was a fan of the Boston Celtics, Larry Bird #33, the Patriots, and the Red Sox. He had a love for the Bay and enjoyed canoeing in the Palmer River. His children and grandchildren will remember him for his endless support, love of cooking, photography, nature, and excitement for the holidays.

Fred was the son of the late Norman and Eva (Bouffard) Sampson. He is survived by Karen (Ruggieri) Sampson, his devoted wife of 45 years. He also leaves behind a daughter, Kerry Sampson, and a son, Peter Sampson. He was the grandfather of Kaylee and Matthew Sampson, great grandfather of Jaxon Brathas, and proud owner of his dog, the Great Sadie Mae. He was the oldest of four children in his family. He is survived by his sisters, Diane Oliviera and Elizabeth “Betsy” Borges, and his brother Thomas Sampson.

Services are with Family’s Choice Cremation, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI, where relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 5-8PM in Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren.

So sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family. Fred was a great man. I remember having coffee with home and my uncle talking about marching bands and listening to the stories they both told about drum and bugle trips to different states. Fred was a great person to have conversations with about anything.. He will be missed. ❤
