Obituary For Michael Durrell Kennedy

Michael D. Kennedy, 77, of Barrington passed away on September 1, 2021 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, bravely fought battle with cancer. The son of the late Max and Jean (Rosselit) Kennedy, Michael was born on June 29, 1944 in Akron, Ohio and lived in Ohio until after college. Michael graduated from Akron University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he moved to NJ to work at Bell Labs. He got his Masters from MIT in Operations Research and met his wife Naomi while in Boston. Michael received his PhD in Operations Research from NYU. The Kennedy family kept moving north, eventually settling in Concord MA, where they lived for 3 decades, during which time Michael formed his own consulting company, Network Strategy Partners. Michael retired in 2015 and he and Naomi moved to Barrington the following year. He loved gardening and grew herbs and vegetables, which he shared with family, neighbors and friends. He loved to bike around Barrington. His greatest passion was sailing, which he did with the Narragansett Yacht Club for their weekly races. Taking long walks on the Barrington Beach, through the nearby nature preserves or to Brickyard Pond gave him much pleasure. He loved watching Jeopardy, reading, and watching Boston hockey, football and baseball teams. Even after relocating, Michael and Naomi regularly attended the Boston Symphony. Most of all he enjoyed visiting with his family of four daughters and nine grandchildren. In addition to Naomi, his wife of 53 years, Michael is survived by his daughters: Leslie Brackett and husband William of Barrington; Sarah Daigle and her husband James of N. Easton, MA; Allison Marks of Hailey, ID; and Emily Schweitzer and her husband Joseph of N. Kingstown, RI. He also leaves four brothers: Patrick (wife Cheryl) of Medina, Ohio; Steven (wife Karen) of Marietta, GA; Timothy (wife Evelyn) of Jasper, GA; and Roger of Conyers, GA. Michael's grandchildren gave him untold joy: Annabel, Madeline, Timothy, Lauren, Matthew, Travis, Sienna, Tyler and Amelia. He was so loved and will be sorely missed. Arrangements are in the care of Family's Choice Cremation, Inc. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family expresses gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Beacon Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, East Providence, RI (https://www.amedisys.com/beacon/) or Save the Bay, Newport, RI (https://www.savebay.org/).
